If you are one of those video games aficionados currently addicted to shooter games or fighting playing games online, you are not alone. Games like ?Fight Night 3? from Xbox 360 or perhaps the worldwide Xbox favorite ?Halo 2?, that is still making history through the fun play of both national and International audiences through online multi-gaming experiences. Not only can you start having the excitement of playing it with your brother or friend back home, if you are in the states you can play with Canada, Pakistan, China, Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico and many other places to shout ?I beat you and I will beat you again?, ?Wow you are really horrible, even my 10 years old brother can beat you with his eyes closed?, among many other adrenaline ?Who is the boss? type of rush comments to a guy thousands of miles away from you.

Personally, one of the best games for Xbox 360 right now is ?Fight Night 3?. That is if you are into the adrenaline mode and like to sweat when things are not going the way you like in one of those Roy Jones Jr vs. Oscar De La Hoya types of matches. In that video game you can choose from over twenty plus fighters and you get to re-live old time matches along with ESPN commentators, Madison Square Garden at your back and even pre-fight weight count rumbles. It does not get any better when you see our Oscar De La Hoya being beaten in a pre-fight weight certification area, and then you live when De La Hoya hammers and beat to the punch Joe Frazier and Ali. Not sure how that comes close in our reality world, however, I believe that is of interest to any boxing fan wishing to encounter and position themselves in matches where the differences are between 40-50 pounds between opponents. One of the most realistic developments through the game is when a fighter is delivered an uppercut upon being low on stamina and has a major cut in one of the eyes. You will hear the sound of the head currently having a 4th of July explosion while seeing all the ketchup spread all over the air in slow motion before the fighter gets KO to the floor. Some make call this game exciting and others see it just to violent even for grown ups.

Then there is Halo 2 still with a worldwide video games buzz. This game has been so successful that they are even in the final stages of finishing the production of the soon to be released ?Halo 3?. If Xbox 360 console was hard to get even four month and even five months later after launch, I can?t imagine the best game ever to hit the Xbox market being re-released in a final version shortly. The beauty of this whole Xbox addiction remains through games like Halo and subsequent versions. Not only you get hooked one, two or three hours without having nothing to drink or eat, but time passes and immediately upon finishing or taking a break you think that you have only played 15 minutes.

Are games like these addictive or therapeutic? In my conclusion as a gaming fan and video games addict, it is both therapeutic and addictive at the same time. It is my believe that many of us mix positive therapy and addiction as equal words with the same definitions. In all, Xbox 360 games along with their many competitors will remain a force to a billion dollar market that should never stop growing. Games like Halo and Fight Night 3 are here to stay. Have fun while you have the fortune and time to enjoy them.

Video Games is one of the greatest items for buying at wholesale prices. Gaming fans are invited to enjoy Xbox 360 savings by getting a certified Wholesale Video Games List

If you grew up in the early to late 60s you remember watching Vic Morrow in the great series Combat. You were so taken by the his performance that if you were a normal kid, you wanted to be Sergeant Saunders. And you got the chance to do it too. The toy stores were stocked to the rafters with Saunders trademarked camouflaged helmet, Thompson Sub Machine Gun and hand grenades. The gun had a pull back knob that was quite realistic and the gun made quite a racket when it was shot. The grenades were equipped with the old style cap explosives that also made quite a bang when the grenade hit the ground correctly.

Taking your equipment, you and your friends made off for the nearest woods or mazed area. You took turns hunting each other down. Because nobody really got shot, you were pretty much on the honor system when someone snuck up behind you, started shooting and said, “you're dead”. You were always tempted to say, “I'm just wounded” and walk off to the aid station for a brief timeout until you were “healed” and ready to get back in the game. Nobody really died and the games went on forever until you simply got tired of playing or your mother called you in for dinner. It was all pretty harmless fun.

But, it's 40 years later and parents are wondering if they should let their kids play war games. They're afraid that if their kids play with guns they will grow up to play with real guns. We have become so politically correct that it has gotten to the point where you can't even find guns in a toy store anymore. Those days are long gone. So if a kid wants to play army, he better have a very good imagination.

The question is, is this right? Certainly not every kid who played with guns grew up to become a killer. An associate of mine had not only a Saunders Tommy Gun, but also a German Luger, an M1 rifle, a Colt 45 and quite a few hand grenades. He says he had to have several when attacking those German bunkers. Today, this kid who lived to play army, is a successful Internet marketer and has never held a real gun a day in his life.

The truth is, it doesn't take a toy gun to turn a kid bad. If somebody is destined to turn to a life of crime, he's going to do it with or without having played with toy guns. So the question of whether or not kids should be allowed to play war games is one that has to be answered by each individual parent. Parents should make informed decisions about everything they allow or don't allow their children to do. There is an old saying that says guns don't kill, people kill. That was true in the 1960s and it is true today as well.

Certainly toy guns don't kill anybody.

With so many forms of entertainment available today, games and puzzles remain a fun way to pass the time, a means of instilling good sportsmanship in children, and a way to bring families together. In fact, there are addicting games for people of all ages. Monopoly, however, has to rank on almost everyone’s list of the most addicting games of all time.

When thinking about addicting games, Monopoly is one of the first board games to come to mind. Who hasn’t spent hours scheming to trade railroads, or hoping beyond hope that they will manage to avoid landing on the Boardwalk space with the hotel on it? Debates continue to rage as to whether money paid to the banker goes in the middle of the board and the lucky person to land on Free Parking rakes in the cash (the official rules say no, but every family seems to have its own tradition of rules).

There are over two dozen great versions of Monopoly, some of which incorporate themes and others of which are designed as kid’s games. Monopoly Jr. is a great way to get the younger ones involved in and excited about Monopoly, and is still fun for adults. In fact, a child’s movement from the Junior version to the “real” version of Monopoly is almost like a rite of passage.

When it comes to themes, there’s a Monopoly game for virtually everyone. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings Monopoly themes appeal to the sci-fi crowd, while the NFL and Dale Earnhardt Monopoly editions are a sure bet for sports aficionados. Those who love nostalgia will enjoy playing the I Love Lucy version of Monopoly, while kids of all ages enjoy the Pokemon, Spider-Man, and Disney Monopoly editions. Other themes include Harley-Davidson, The Simpsons, Scooby-Doo, and Peanuts - and there’s even a .com version!

Of course, while two people can play Monopoly, the best Monopoly games involve at least three or four players. When it comes to addicting games for twosomes, card games are always a favorite. Kid’s games include educational card games like Learning Journey and card games that feature historical figures like the Pioneers in Medicine Card Game or the Inventors Card Game. For adults, rummy cards are a fun way to pass the time, as are cribbage, Uno, and Skip-Bo.

Completing jigsaw puzzles are on the top of many people’s list of addictive activities. It’s a great solo activity, as well as being a fun family pastime. Puzzles come in all shapes and sizes, and are suitable for kids as well as adults. Especially appropriate for rainy days, jigsaw puzzles keep idle fingers busy and make the time go by quickly.

When it comes to addicting games, no one can dispute that video games are completely absorbing. Even so, Monopoly is one of the few unique board games that people of all ages can play, enjoy, and become addicted to.

As someone who works in the telecommunications industry, I am well aware that monopolies in a free market society will ultimately be forced to divest themselves of their stranglehold on competition, and deliver products that meet consumers' needs at prices they can afford.

This divestiture will take place by hook or by crook, or more specifically as it applied to telecommunications and the break-up of the Bell Companies, by enforcement of anti-trust regulation, by new technology, and by downward market pricing pressures.

This is why telecom companies who used to charge upwards of $1 per minute for some calls are scrambling to get you to sign on to their services for a mere .05 per minute, and why upstarts like Vonage who use the Internet to relay voice calls at a song are throwing a wrench in everyone's process.

The Cable TV industry, alas, is one reigning monopoly that still survives, and has been given a free pass on market pricing, technology and consumer choice.

Consider the brouhaha that the industry–and some critics–have raised over the FCC's decision to review the possibility of “a la carte cable” offerings. This is the simple, and sensible, idea that consumers should be able to choose their own cable channels and build their own packages, rather than rely on Cable's fixed, bundled offerings that force consumers to receive channels they don't want.

Some broadcasters of the more “undesirable” channels claim that if consumers get to choose only the channels they want, these ugly duckling channels would be forced out of business…because no one would choose them!

Well?

That's why it's called a free market economy, stupid!

And as I said, these broadcasters are getting a free pass. My opinion is that if the American public thinks you have no reason to be–and they will vote with their wallet–then either you provide more desirable programming or find some other line of business.

Choice is what a free market economy is about, and consumers should have a choice in the channels they want to receive.

Telling me, “Well, you can just block out the channels you don't like” is not the answer because I am still paying for those channels I don't want.

The Cable industry claims that apart from the bundling, we would be forced to pay higher prices for a la carte offerings.

Not if they drop the channels that no one wants. That's less overhead right there.

As I said, technology and market forces will ultimately force these cable operators to offer a la carte offerings. Technology is giving us video on demand, and movies and TV shows that you can pay to download to your computer.

Is this not, in principle, the idea behind a la carte? And it is happening already. Technology is taking the lead, as it continues to do so in the telecom industry.

And technology will ultimately prevail with cable as well.

Let me describe the way my house looked a few weeks ago. My younger children (six children from 6-18) were on winter vacation and by five o'clock at night and the children were BORED. You know what that means: some were fighting, some were ignoring the others, and some were simply obnoxious.

If this sounds like something that could happen in your family then listen to a great solution.

I left the house to run an errand (I have an inclination to being a coward) but my wife stayed behind (I don't know if she is braver than I am or that she is just more responsible) and saved the situation she had four or five of the kids sit down on the floor and brought out Monopoly! When I came back, they were all, from the oldest child to the youngest child, quietly playing the game and enjoying each other's company. It was beautiful to look at.

What are some of the benefits of the most popular board game in history (over 250,000,000 sets have been sold in 27 languages according to the official Monopoly website!)?

*There are elements of both luck (the number rolled on the dice determines what property she can buy and how much rent she has to pay) and skill (which property to buy, when in the game to buy it, and how many houses or hotels to build on them). This makes it that all ages enjoy it. The young children like it because they have a chance to beat their older siblings (and parents) and the older children (and parents) don't find it boring because of the strategy involved.

*As opposed to video games it is a calm and relaxed game.

*Although it is a competitive game, the best way to acquire a monopoly is by trading with other players so it is beneficial to be nice and on friendly terms with the other players (siblings) so that they will trade with her.

*Another benefit is that it takes about an hour and a half (although the longest game reported is 1,680 hours long!) so it is great inexpensive way to “kill” an hour and a half during the vacation.

So the next time it gets to be hectic in the house remember to take out the old Monopoly to calm down and unite the whole family. And by the way, don't feel bad if you lose to your children. You might be losing some choice real estate but you are gaining a close-knit family, and there is no better return on your investment than this.

I have become an expert in kids games in the last few months. Well, I may not be an expert in traditional terms. However, I managed to come up with a good majority of the ones played in my home all on my own. The problem is that only a few games for young children can hold the attention of my daughter for very long. As a result, I have to constantly come up with something new, or at least add a new twist on an old game.

Through the years, kids games have changed, but some of the traditional ones are still around for some very good reasons. Kids games like Memory and Candyland have stood the test of time because kids can connect with them. These games can teach them a thing or two, even if they don t realize it. These games can teach a child about colors or counting. They can also learn things like waiting for their turn, fair play, honestly, and how to lose gracefully through these games. Some kids may find it tough to learn the last one, but every child should learn this attitude before he or she starts school.

Kids games are everywhere and the majority of them are priced just right for just about everyone. Some of the classic kids games only cost five or six dollars, even in a store like Toys R Us. You can also make up your own versions of these classic games. You should not forget that some games for kids have now gone electronic. The Vsmile system for children under five or six can teach children what they may otherwise learn in preschool or kindergarten. This system is not just a game, but a great learning tool as well.

You should consider kids games if you are out of gift ideas for your little ones. Kids love to play games, and getting some for Christmas might be a good idea. You can get games for all the kids in your family at inexpensive prices. You can never go wrong with the classic games for children.

These games are also great gifts for birthdays and other occasions. Having a good stack of kids games is a great idea if you have children that visit your house quite often. One of the best things about hanging out at my grandparent s place when we were kids was that they always had some games for us to play.

Some people who come into the sport buy their snowboards others get theirs as gifts after much pleading and patient waiting. That is a start, but now you have to figure out the hardest part, which is learning how to become a real snowboarder. In this article we're going to talk about some of the fundamental strategies of snowboarding, and some of the main things you're going to need to learn, and the equipment you're going to need to get started. As with any sport, the right equipment is vital if you want to perform properly, and you need to know how the equipment works as well. A general guide to the basics of snowboarding should include and outline of this information.

You need a board that fits you right. Boards come in all sizes, for adults and children of all ages and sizes so when you get your board, make sure it is a good fit. This way learning how to snowboard is going to be much easier.

Snowboarding works in much the same way as skiing, and the board is shaped in much the same way as a ski. For those with experience in skiing the transition should be much easier than for someone who is altogether new to the snow.

There are many types of snowboards, including freestyle boards, free ride boards and alpine or race boards. Beginners like them because they are easier to use than the other types of board. The two ends of the freestyle board are the same, so there is no front and back. This type of board is good for learning to snowboard, and for learning new tricks. Use a soft, short shoe for this type of board.

The free ride board is very versatile in terms of the kinds of conditions it can handle. Of course, an amateur or beginner wouldn?t have much use for this facility. Many different kinds of snow and ground quality are within your reach with this type of board. It is not as short or wide as the freestyle board and it is less flexible. The free ride board goes well with soft, tall shoes that have soft bindings.

Race or alpine boards are the kind of boards you will see being used in major competitions, or by professionals. Its thinness increases stability and makes the board pick up speed more easily, and make sharp, fast turns more easily. The shoe that goes with a race or alpine board resembles a ski shoe, for support and control.

Be sure to keep your legs and your whole body relaxed. If you tense up it is going to be hard going, and you run the risk of experiencing a dangerous fall. Keep your knees bent a little, but don't lock them. Instead, focus on keeping your legs loose to absorb the pressure of any bumps you encounter.

That way, the ride will be smooth and easy and it will not be difficult to keep your balance. Avoid the urge to tense up your legs, or you won't get that smooth ride and you are very likely to end up on the ground, which is not a good place to be. Look at the pros and see the way they do it, and you'll get a feel for the sport. This is a good way to avoid having to learn by trial and error, which can be a very painful process.

Strap one foot onto the board and see how you feel going across the hill, just to get a feel for it. When you think you are ready, strap in the other foot and try going down the hill for the first time. You steer with the leg that is in front. Use your front leg to guide the board, and use your hips to maintain balance. Don't forget to keep your knees bent to absorb the shocks of any bumps on the hill. You are now snowboarding. When you want to stop just turn sideways so that the board is heading perpendicular to the hill, and you are facing up. That way the board will stop moving. To start again, point your snowboard down and it will start sliding. You might want to borrow equipment the first few times to get a feel for the sport before getting your own personal shoes and board. You will also have a better idea about what kind is right for you.

Teaching English grammar can be hard going - for the teacher and the students. It doesn't have to be difficult or painful, however. You can teach English grammar using fun learning games and before you know it your students will be more than willing. How does it work, you ask. Well, there has been a movement away from the traditional methods of teaching English grammar through writing, rewriting and worksheets to using a more active approach through games. Researchers have also begun to look at how and why these new methods work.

Four sound reasons to teach grammar with games

1. Arif Saricoban and Esen Metin, authors of “Songs, Verse and Games for Teaching Grammar” explain how and why games work for teaching grammar in an ESL classroom. They say, “Games and problem-solving activities, which are task-based and have a purpose beyond the production of correct speech, are the examples of the most preferable communicative activities.” They go on to explain that grammar games help children not only gain knowledge but be able to apply and use that learning.

2. Additionally, games have the advantage of allowing the students to “practice and internalise vocabulary, grammar and structures extensively.” They can do this because students are often more motivated to play games than they are to do desk work. Plus, during the game, the students are focused on the activity and end up absorbing the language subconsciously. One can also add that fun learning games usually contain repetition, which allows the language to stick.

3. While games are motivating for the students, probably the best reason, according to Saricoban and Metin, to use games is that “the use of such activities both increases the cooperation and competition in the classroom.” One can use games to add excitement through competition or games which create bonding among students and teacher.

4. Aydan Ersoz, author of “Six Games for the ESL/EFL Classroom” also explains more reasons why games do work for teaching grammar. Learning a language requires constant effort and that can be tiring. Ersoz says games can counter this as because:

* Games that are amusing and challenging are highly motivating.
* Games allow meaningful use of the language in context.

Children are more motivated to learn grammar with games

The theory of intrinsic motivation also gives some insight as to why teaching grammar through games actually works. Intrinsic motivation refers to the internal factors that encourage us to do something. Most young learners will not internally decide that they want to learn grammar. They don't yet understand the concepts of why it's important to know proper grammar, so these external factors won't affect them much either. Instead, intrinsic motivation can lead encourage them to play games. If these games are good then they will be learning while they are playing.

Using some movement is crucial because movement helps activate the students' mental capacities and stimulate neural networks, thus promoting learning and retention. If you have a large class with no space you still have options. Children can stand up, sit down, move various body parts and pass things around to each other. Movement does not only mean children tearing around the playground.

What Kinds of Games Work Best?

When you are looking for games to use in your classroom, don't just pick something to be a “time filler” which does not have a definite linguistic outcome. These games may entertain the students, but when you don't have much time with them each day as it is, you want your game to do double duty to get the most out of the time you spend playing games.

Have a clear linguistic outcome for each game. The game can be a listening game to allow the students to repeatedly hear a new grammatical structure in use, or it can be a speaking game to allow practise of the grammar once it has been absorbed through listening beforehand. There are degrees of difficulty with speaking games from basic repetition in a fun context to more creative sentence creation for revision or more advanced practise once the basics have been mastered. The teacher should lead the children through this progression so that the game at hand is always well within the grasp of the students. This makes games fun rather than laborious. It is a mistake to play a speaking game immediately after the new grammar has been presented. Ideally reading, spelling and writing games come after the new grammar has been absorbed and the students can use it orally.

Another thing to watch out for with grammar games is that a maximum of students are involved simultaneously. If you have thirty children you want to avoid a game where only one child is speaking at a time. What are the other twenty-nine children supposed to do in the meantime other than get bored? On the other end of the scale however are games that cause chaos in class and make teachers unpopular with colleagues because of high noise levels. A variety of suitable games are available for you to try free in the resource box below the article.

Now you can stop the eye-rolling and complaining from your students when you even THINK about teaching them a grammar lesson, and have some productive fun.

Many people wonder why their telephone company charges different prices for different types of long-distance calls. Doesn't this mean that customers can get charged a lot on all of their long-distance calling service since every call can be a different price? The answer to this question is an obvious, “yes.” They will certainly be charged more because of all the additional parties involved and extra steps needed due to the distance that their call must travel.

The local telephone company or “local exchange carrier” (LEC), as it is known in the industry, is the entry point for a person who wants telephone service. An LEC, however, is not concerned with finding the most favorable ways of making the whole long-distance connection. They are initially just concerned with taking care of the physical network, like telephone poles &amp wires and big telecom switches, which supports the local calling area. And of course, they also need to make sure that all long-distance calls are organized so that each finds the proper connections to the communication super-highway.

For this reason, a market exists for smaller companies to help organize long-distance only calls and it all begins with their ability to find the best ways of making long-distance connections. In the past, there was only one way in which calls were connected because there was only one telephone company in the whole United States. Later on, other LEC's were formed but long-distance calls were all still handled by only one long-distance telephone company. Customers had very little choice about how much they paid on their telephone bills, especially on their long-distance calls, which were often very expensive to make. But then the government changed telecommunication regulations and enacted anti-monopoly laws against the one long-distance company. Thus, the road was paved toward allowing other companies, not just the LEC's, to serve customers' long-distance telephone needs. Now customers could choose which company was going to provide local service and which was going to provide long-distance. This was particularly important for people who used a lot of long-distance because the new long-distance companies offered much more affordable rates compared to those offered by LEC's who were not pressured to find the most efficient ways to make the complete connection across all different areas to the final intended destination.

The current dual-company, phone-service situation means that customers can choose one company for their local telephoning needs - an LEC - and then choose a different company - a long-distance carrier - to handle their long-distance calls. With this set-up, all local calls are serviced by an LEC and all long-distance calls by the long-distance carrier. Of course, the LEC will still be responsible for making sure the landline wires coming into a house work properly as well as organizing calls within the local area. But when someone wants to make a long-distance call, the LEC recognizes this particular customer's request for connection with a destination that is outside of the local-calling area and sends it to the long-distance carrier. The long-distance carrier then takes over the call and sends it to the communication super-highway so that the call can connect with someone in another area, state, or even country. The long-distance carrier uses the communication super-highway just like an LEC would, the difference being that it focuses only on long-distance service so that it is able to offer much lower rates than LEC's do. With its special partnerships allowing it to serve calls to destinations all over the United States as well as the whole world, a long-distance carrier is the best and most cost-effective resource for consumers.

Board games have evolved massively over the years. As a child my memories of board games were Monopoly, Draughts, Cluedo, Guess Who and many many more. All games that we could play as a family to pass the time away. Hours of fun was had by all.

My favorite game was Monopoly a game that give me an insight to Real Estate (ironically enough, I now have a career as an Estate Agent). Is that a coincidence or did my childhood obsession with Monopoly play on by subconscious?

Many Sunday afternoons were spent with my four sisters playing, or should I say rowing over this fabulous game. The first row would normally be about who would like to be the iron, shoe, car etc (these were the items that you had to chose from to represent you on the board as you played). My favourite was always the dog!

The next row would be about who went first, and then the next would be about who would play the role of the Banker.

Finally the game would begin, and how much fun we had. Hours and hours of fun week after week.

How things have changed? Today, whilst we still have the old traditional Board games, and I guess we always will, Games are far more advanced, and are often played on computers, or via DVD Players using your Television sets.

You can now play a board game on your own against a Computer (who will act as your opponent) as opposed to playing with friends and/or family. I find this quite sad, especially knowing how much fun we had as children interacting with each other, and observing each other as we rowed over such meaningless but then important issues.

I now see my own nephews spending hours on their own in front of a computer playing games without any physical human interaction, whilst their parents get on with other things. I guess one advantage is that if you are an only child you don?t miss out on not playing games just because you had no-one else to play it with you. The Traditional games such as monopoly can now be played on a computer and the Computer can act as your opponent. You can even set what level of difficulty you want to play at.

The disadvantage to this, in my opinion is that the family getting together and interacting with each other seems to be a thing of the past.
