You can have the best product in the world, but if it?s sitting down in your basement in the dark it will fail. The old adage of ?invent a better mouse trap and people will beat a path to your door? no longer applies ? if it ever did.

The hard facts of life are that if you want to succeed you have to be a marketing expert. Your product has to sit on a pedestal, gleaming in the bright sunlight where everyone can see it. And even then it?s essential that everyone who sees it is convinced that they can?t live without it.

If you think about it there?s a great deal of marketing effort behind every product you buy. It?s a tough world out there. There?s competition for every dollar that?s spent. No product has a monopoly.

The medium through which products or services compete is marketing. So, there is no alternative, you have to become a marketing expert. You may think that you can skirt round this issue by hiring marketing experts to do the work on your behalf. But if you?re not an expert yourself you won?t get good value.

To get good value from other marketing experts you have to be able to brief them properly so that they set off in the right direction. Then you need to be a marketing expert in order to be able to judge whether the work they have produced for you is likely to produce the results you need.

But I believe that the need for expertise starts even before you go to the market. You have to be able to set up your product and your proposition in such a way that immediately people know about it they are filled with an irresistible urge to own it.

Marketing is not just a collection of skills, it is a way of thinking about products and services. What makes Sir Richard Branson and other famous entrepreneurs so successful is not just their ability to spot niches in the market, it their ability to position their products so that they look better than any of their competitors.

Over the last twenty years I have set up two successful companies in the fields of Marketing Consultancy and Business Coaching. In both instances I started by asking myself ?What makes me different, better and more desirable than anyone else in the market??

When I set up the Quick And Easy Marketing Club my aim was to provide business professionals with easy access to marketing tools that can quickly make them into marketing experts capable of building successful businesses in their market niche. By issuing a constant stream of low priced online videos to make it easy for anyone to become a marketing expert.

David Ferrers M.NLP is a Business Coach who has built two successful companies by focussing on being a marketing expert. He now produces videos and courses, many of which are free, showing others how to grow successful and profitable businesses.
